Condition:

Sagging skin (Body)

What is it?

Skin laxity affects several areas of the body. Whether it is the arms, abdomen, sides, knees, thighs or buttocks, over time and with certain lifestyle habits, the skin loses its elasticity, volume and density.

Did you know?

It’s not only the face that is affected by skin laxity. The 1% annual loss of collagen that starts in our mid-twenties also directly affects the appearance and structure of the skin of the entire body, which can result in a lack of tone and firmness on areas such as the abdomen, arms or thighs.

What are the causes?

As skin laxity is mainly a sign of aging, it is caused by the loss of collagen and elastin as well as by the slowing down of skin cell regeneration. Several origins can be identified for these:

Bad lifestyle habits

Tobacco and/or alcohol use, stress, lack of physical exercise, a diet rich in sugar… As we know, lifestyle habits have a direct impact on our health, but also on that of our skin. In order to promote the production of collagen and elastin and to allow our skin to better protect itself against external aggressors (UV rays, wind, pollution…), it is essential to pay particular attention to our lifestyle!

Weight fluctuations

During rapid weight gain or loss, such as during dieting or pregnancy, the skin’s elastic fibres are stretched and then rapidly released. The skin loses its firmness and becomes visibly less toned and firm.

Hormonal changes

Adequate levels of estrogens, testosterone and progesterone, among others, are necessary for proper tissue function. A dysfunction or imbalance in the levels of these hormones increases dehydration of the skin and therefore the loss of tone.

Sun exposure

Exposure to the sun, especially if not accompanied by UV protection, leads to an increase in melanin production, a reduction in collagen and elastin production, a thickening of certain areas of the skin and clearly promotes skin dryness. Gradually, the structure of the skin changes and it becomes visibly less firm.

How to prevent?

The adoption of healthy lifestyle habits

Promoting the production of collagen, a diet rich in vitamins A and C, silicon, amino acids, magnesium and antioxidants is an effective way to fight against skin laxity. Similarly, it is important to avoid foods that are heavily roasted or burned, as the process (called glycation) generated by this promotes the loss of skin elasticity.

Good hydration

Skin contains on average 75% water, an essential element for the proper functioning of cells. Better protected against environmental aggressors (UV rays, pollution, wind, heat, cold, humidity and dryness), skin ages less quickly! To keep your skin supple and toned and your complexion radiant, use a quality moisturizer that matches your skin type and needs…and enables it to absorb about 1.5 L of water per day!

Year round sun protection

UVA rays (present year round and all day) and UVB rays (particularly significant from April to September between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) directly affect the epidermis and dermis. We can’t say it enough: it is essential to protect your skin by using an appropriate sunscreen every day – preferably mineral-based and at least SPF 30 –and remembering to reapply it every 2 hours.

How to treat?

Venus_FreezeMC

Venus Freeze / Venus Legacy

Combining pulsed magnetic fields with multipolar RF waves, Venus Freeze/Venus Legacy heats the skin from the inside out in a constant, safe and uniform manner. Collagen fibres are tightened, collagen production is stimulated and the elasticity of fibres is reinforced. Skin is firmed and tightened, the body contour is reshaped and the silhouette is slimmed. The effectiveness of Venus Freeze/Venus Legacy makes it the treatment of choice for mature skin!

Thermage

Thermage/BTL Exilis

Using thermal energy combining unipolar radiofrequencies and a cooling process for greater comfort and better skin protection, those technologies slow the loss of collagen and stimulate its natural production. Under the heat of the Thermage/BTL Exilis process, fibroblast cells are spontaneously contracted and then tightened, allowing them to reproduce collagen and elastin. The skin is visibly and gradually tightened.
