Don’t forget the neck!

When it comes to rejuvenation treatments, we immediately think of the face. Forehead, temples, cheekbones, the oval of the face… wrinkles, sagging and loss of volume affect several areas of the face and it is here that these conditions seem most visible.

But what about the neck?

Research shows that each individual spends an average of 3 hours a day on their cell phone. As we stay connected at all times – whether it’s for work, following the news or browsing social media – we naturally tilt our gaze towards our cell phone or tablet.

Excessive use of our electronic devices also causes premature sagging of the skin on our necks, the so-called “tech neck”, a phenomenon we used to observe in our 40s and now observed in our late 20s.

Also, the skin loses its elasticity and firmness over time. This natural phenomenon combined with our “tech neck” and exposure to the sun – since the neck is particularly exposed to UVA and UVB rays – promotes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the neck area.

How to treat the signs of skin aging in the neck area?

At Dermapure, we take care of the neck as well as the décolleté, face and body. This is why several treatments, cutting-edge technologies, and our professional cosmeceuticals treat wrinkles, spots and skin sagging in this area.

While Ulthera® and Thermage® platforms tighten and firm skin, injectable treatments soften features and fill in lost volume. In addition, pulsed light and laser treatments can fade pigmentation spots caused by sun exposure and the natural aging process.

1) Thermage®, Ulthera® and Venus Freeze/Legacy

Thermage® technology uses unipolar radio frequency waves to warm collagen fibres, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin. A true Gym for your Skin, Thermage® tightens skin tissue to maintain its tone and slow down the effects of time!

The Ulthera® platform delivers targeted ultrasound to reach different depths – epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Creating tiny subcutaneous attachment points, this technology allows the skin to regenerate itself, providing a smoothing effect that is progressive and natural.

Venus Freeze™/Legacy™ combines pulsed magnetic fields with multi-polar radio frequency waves to tighten loose collagen fibres in the skin and stimulate fibroblast cells to produce new collagen, elastic fibres and support tissue. The skin is thus firmed and smoothed.

Thermage®, Ulthera® and Venus Freeze/Legacy are complementary to each other. Thermage® and Ulthera® can be performed annually or alternately as needed, and may be combined with complementing injectable treatments. In addition, Venus Freeze/Legacy is performed as an 8 to 10 session treatment, followed by a maintenance session at the change of season. It is also very popular as a complement to Thermage® and Ulthera® treatments. It works on the surface and acts in synergy with the benefits created in depth by these two other platforms.

2) Neuromodulators and Dermal Fillers

Rejuvenating injections, performed by our experienced medical team, help to reduce wrinkles and soften the visible sagging of the neck.

Dr. Frances Jang, Dermatologist and Injecting Physician at our Vancouver clinic, explains how to rejuvenate your neck using the most innovative techniques in this video.

Pulsed light and laser treatments

Like the face, hands and décolleté, the neck is also exposed to the sun, which can lead to the appearance of pigmentation spots and small blood vessels.

Pulsed light photorejuvenation, also known as IPL, vascular lasers as well as fractionated lasers are ideal for reducing the appearance of spots and small blood vessels.

While pulsed light targets colour contrasts under the skin to dry out and eliminate small blood vessels and visible brown or red spots, vascular lasers selectively destroy visible vessels on the skin’s surface. Pigment lasers, on the other hand, remove aged or damaged skin cells to make way for revitalized skin – reducing spots.

4) Professional Skincare

It is important to apply professional cosmeceuticals not only to the face, but also to the neck and décolleté!

Cleanser, serum, anti-aging cream, exfoliant, mask, mineral sunscreen: each product should also be applied to the neck during your skincare routine to stimulate collagen production, protect the natural skin barrier, and prevent the appearance of signs of skin aging.
