The Jessner peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that combines salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is particularly effective for treating acne and improving skin texture due to its unique properties as an oil-soluble beta-hydroxy acid. It penetrates deeply into pores, dissolving excess oil and unclogging them to reduce acne and prevent future breakouts. This action helps minimize enlarged pores by clearing out debris that can cause them to stretch. Additionally, salicylic acid exfoliates the skin’s surface, including the outermost layer, removing dead skin cells and smoothing rough, bumpy areas. It also calms inflammation, reducing redness and swelling, and regulates oil production, making it ideal for acne-prone skin and those with uneven texture.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is effective in addressing uneven skin tone due to its dual action. It exfoliates the skin's surface, removing dead cells and promoting cell turnover, which helps to smooth out texture irregularities. Additionally, lactic acid enhances skin hydration, which can improve overall skin tone and radiance. By combining exfoliation with hydration, lactic acid helps even out skin tone and enhance the skin's overall appearance.

Resorcinol

Resorcinol is a potent ingredient used to treat various skin conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis. It works by breaking down and removing rough, scaly, or hardened skin, which helps in healing and regenerating new, healthy skin cells. Resorcinol also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which help reduce redness and protect the skin from oxidative stress.

Contraindications

Jessner peels are not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those with active skin infections, or individuals who have recently used Retin-A or Accutane.
