Microdermabrasion mechanically removes dead stratum corneum cells (the outermost layer of the epidermis) with a small applicator tip coated in diamond crystals. It helps renew skin by speeding up the skin-regeneration process, unclogging pores, and refining skin’s texture. It also preps skin for the application of cosmeceuticals, which helps improve their effectiveness. Diamond crystals are known for their polishing properties. When sprayed onto the skin, these crystals loosen and remove dead cells and unclog pores. The cleansing action stimulates new cell growth and the production of collagen and elastin. This technique is very gentle and safe, and should not be confused with more abrasive aluminum oxide (also called corundum) crystals. There are no side effects, however, occasional slight localized redness of the treated area may occur.
Microdermabrasion is most often used on the entire face. However, other areas such as the neck, chest or back can benefit from this treatment. It is also suitable for acne-prone skin.
Each relaxing in-clinic treatment lasts approximately one hour!
Cleansing the skin with a tonic gel is the logical first step in any rejuvenating treatment. Using a Clarisonic® sonic facial cleansing brush takes things one step further by lifting and removing surface dirt six times more effectively than traditional methods.
Mechanical exfoliation of the skin means using mild abrasion to remove dead skin cells. Your technician slowly glides a diamond-tip wand over the entire face while applying even, steady pressure. Using a simultaneous combination of friction and suction, it effectively lifts and removes dead skin cells from the skin surface. The technician adjusts the size of the tip according to the treated area, paying special attention to problem lines and imperfections that require additional exfoliation.
Now that the skin is clear of impurities and dead cells, it’s the best time to apply cosmeceuticals. Immediately applying an antioxidant mask will deliver the most benefits since its innovative blend of botanical ingredients and clays soothes and nourishes skin, and provides greater protection against oxidative damage.
The mask is left on the skin for about 10 minutes. While you rest, the technician massages your neck and shoulders to enhance your relaxation experience.
As a final touch, your technician wipes off the mask and applies a combination of high-performance anti-aging products. Now is the perfect time to discuss your at-home skincare routine with your technician, who can recommend adjustments tailored to your specific skin needs.
Microdermabrasion is a skin maintenance treatment. For optimal results, a microdermabrasion treatment should be scheduled every change of season. We recommend 5 to 6 follow-up sessions, performed every two weeks, to remove several layers of dead skin cells and improve skin tone and texture.
