Laser hair removal is a powerful solution for long-term hair reduction, freeing you from the constant cycle of shaving, waxing, and tweezing. Whether you're tired of razor burns or searching for a more permanent option for pesky facial hair, this treatment offers smoother, more confident skin with lasting results.

But the journey to silky, hair-free skin doesn’t end with your last laser pulse. To get the most out of your treatment and protect your skin as it heals, proper aftercare is essential. Here’s how to take care of your skin in the hours, days, and weeks following your session.

Your Laser Hair Removal Aftercare Guide

Avoid Irritants on Treated Skin

For the first 24 to 48 hours after your session, keep your skincare routine simple and gentle. Cleanse the treated area with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser, without rubbing or scrubbing the skin.

If the treated area is on the face, such as the chin or upper lip, avoid makeup for at least 24 hours. When you start wearing it again, choose mineral or non-comedogenic products. For areas such as the legs, bikini line, or underarms, avoid scented lotions, perfumes, and fragranced body washes that may irritate the skin.

Stay Out of the Sun

Post-treatment skin can be more sensitive to UV exposure, so it is important to protect the treated area from the sun as it recovers. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least one to two weeks.

During the first 24 hours, if the skin is still sensitive, rely on physical protection such as light clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, or staying in the shade. After this initial period, apply sunscreen daily to help protect the treated skin.

Skip Pools, Hot Tubs, and Heat

Heat and certain chemicals can further irritate freshly treated skin, so avoid pools, hot tubs, saunas, and hot baths for at least 48 hours. Keep showers cool to lukewarm and avoid directing strong water pressure onto the treated area.

If you experience redness or swelling, a cold compress can be applied as needed to help soothe the area.

Be Gentle With Your Skin

As your skin recovers, avoid anything that could create friction or irritation. Gently pat the treated area dry rather than rubbing, and wait at least five days before exfoliating, shaving, or waxing.

If the treated area is covered by clothing, choose loose, breathable fabrics to minimize friction against the skin.
