Sclerotherapy Montreal
Sclerotherapy is an injectable medical treatment in which a solution is injected into spider veins (small visible veins close to the surface) and small varicose veins to make them collapse. Once the vein is closed, it is gradually reabsorbed by the body and blood naturally redirects through the surrounding healthy veins. The treatment is used on spider veins and small varicose veins of the legs, ankles and feet.
Sclerotherapy is most often considered by patients who would like to reduce the appearance of spider veins and small visible veins on the legs for aesthetic or comfort reasons. A session lasts about 20 minutes with no notable downtime, and wearing compression stockings in the days following the treatment is generally recommended to support the results. Depending on the nature and extent of the veins to be treated, several sessions spaced over time may be needed to reach the established goals.
Because every patient's veins, goals and medical history are different, sclerotherapy at our Dermapure Outremont clinic always begins with a personalized medical consultation with a physician. Together, you will discuss the nature of your veins, what a realistic treatment plan could look like, the number of sessions anticipated, the expected results, the recovery and the possible side effects. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your veins and your goals. Book your medical consultation with our team at Dermapure Outremont.

Follow-Up & Maintenance
At your initial consultation, the physician will determine how many treatments are required per leg. The number of sclerotherapy treatments necessary depends on the extent of the vein disease and we are limited to the quantity of medication per visit. Closure of the affected veins can be visible within several days however treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks to several months. Support stockings are recommended to promote healthy circulation in the lower limbs and prevent and minimize recurrence. Patients can return to most usual activities post treatment.
Contraindications
Sclerotherapy is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as a known allergy to the sclerotic agent used. Special consideration is required in people with medical conditions that make them more vulnerable such as hypercoagulability (blood clotting), a history of a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
