Weight Loss Journey
Personalized support for lasting results
Losing weight through medications like Ozempic or Wegovy, bariatric surgery or lifestyle change is a powerful commitment to your health. But as your body transforms, your skin can struggle to keep up. Volume loss in the face, laxity in the body, dullness and hair thinning are common and completely normal responses. At Dermapure Outremont, we offer medical and aesthetic care to help your skin, body and hair adapt smoothly through every stage of weight loss.
Meaningful change starts with a decision and at Dermapure Outremont we’re ready to support you from the very beginning. For patients who qualify, our medical team may prescribe GLP-1 medications as part of a structured and closely supervised medical program. This support can play an important role in the early phase of your transformation, offering you a safe and guided path toward your goals.
But the journey doesn’t end there. As your body changes so does your skin. Many patients experience facial volume loss, skin laxity, stretch marks, hair thinning or dullness. These changes are common, but they can sometimes feel at odds with the progress you have made. That is why we offer non-invasive medical aesthetic treatments designed to restore balance at every stage. Whether the goal is to firm the skin, improve texture, boost hydration, refine contours or support hair regrowth, your treatment plan adapts as you do.
Common concerns we help address during and after weight loss:
- Skin laxity and loss of firmness: As fat volume decreases the skin can begin to sag especially around the face arms or abdomen. To address this your plan may include technologies that stimulate collagen production at different depths such as ultrasound, radiofrequency or microneedling paired with exosomes. These treatments help the skin gradually regain strength and structure while refining natural contours.
- Loss of muscle tone: Rapid weight loss can reduce not only fat but also muscle mass leaving some areas with less strength and definition. To support recovery and enhance body contouring your plan may include muscle activation technologies that stimulate targeted muscle groups. These treatments help rebuild tone, improve posture and create a more sculpted appearance in harmony with your new body.
- Hair thinning or shedding: Weight loss can temporarily affect hair density. Regenerative scalp therapies such as PRP or exosomes support regrowth and improve scalp health.
- Dull or dehydrated skin: Internal changes can make the skin appear tired or uneven. Gentle resurfacing facials and antioxidant-rich therapies can help bring back glow and hydration.
- Stretch marks: When the skin is stretched quickly during weight loss its elastic fibers can tear leaving visible lines and changes in texture. These marks are common on the abdomen, thighs or arms and can feel frustrating after all your efforts. We treat them with collagen-stimulating laser therapies which encourage the skin to repair itself from within. Over time this helps soften the contrast and improve overall texture for smoother more even-looking skin.
- Stubborn fat pockets: Some small fat deposits remain even after weight loss especially in areas like the flanks or under the chin. Targeted body contouring treatments can refine and rebalance your silhouette.
- Long-term skin health: Medical-grade skincare and custom facials are adapted to each phase of your transformation to help preserve elasticity hydration and overall skin resilience.
Common changes during and after weight loss, and how we support them
Facial volume loss
Much of the face’s youthful contour comes from its deep and superficial fat pads, the cushions of fat that round the cheeks and support the skin above them. When fat is lost quickly and throughout the body, these pads empty, so the cheeks can hollow, the temples and under-eye area look more marked, and the skin appears looser and more tired. This change is sometimes called “Ozempic face,” though it can follow any rapid weight loss.
Loose skin and reduced firmness
The skin’s ability to bounce back depends on two proteins: collagen, which gives it strength, and elastin, which lets it recoil. Elastin is produced mostly early in life and barely renewed afterward, so skin stretched over a larger volume for a long time and then emptied quickly cannot always retract on its own, leaving looseness on the abdomen, arms or inner thighs.
Stretch marks
Stretch marks are a particular kind of scar, an internal tear rather than an open wound. When the surface of the skin changes faster than the dermis can adapt, the collagen and elastin fibres are stretched past their limit and rupture within the dermis, with no break in the surface. Fresh marks look red or purple because they are still inflamed, and they respond best to treatment, while mature marks turn pearly white and are harder to improve.
Hair thinning
Hair grows in repeating cycles of growth, rest and renewal, a sudden metabolic stress such as rapid weight loss can push many follicles into their resting phase at the same time. The result is a diffuse, temporary shedding known as telogen effluvium, which often appears two to three months after the change and is usually reversible once the body stabilizes. Reduced intake of protein, iron or other nutrients can add to it, and this affects both men and women.
Loss of muscle tone
Muscle shapes the silhouette from underneath, giving firm contours that losing fat alone cannot create. During rapid weight loss, part of what the body draws on is lean muscle, not only fat, which can leave certain areas looking softer or less defined. Muscle is also a "use it or lose it" tissue, so it needs to be actively maintained. Protein intake and regular activity, supported through your follow-up, are the foundation.
Stubborn fat deposits
The body stores fat in a pattern set by genetics, sex and hormones. The cells in certain areas, such as the lower belly, the flanks or the hips, carry receptors that favour holding onto fat rather than releasing it. This is the biological reason these zones can persist even after significant weight loss, and why “spot reduction” through exercise alone rarely works.
Dull skin and long-term skin health
During weight loss, internal changes and reduced hydration can leave the complexion looking duller and less even. Two things are usually at play: the natural cycle that renews surface skin cells slows down, and the skin's hyaluronic acid, the molecule that holds water and keeps skin plump, gradually declines. The result is skin that looks drier and less radiant.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you help with facial changes caused by Ozempic or Wegovy?
Yes. Rapid weight loss can sometimes lead to what is called “Ozempic face” or “Wegovy face,” where the loss of fat and volume makes the face appear hollow, tired, or older than you feel. At Dermapure we specialize in natural-looking solutions to restore balance. Treatments may include collagen-stimulating injectables to gradually rebuild support, skin tightening technologies like ultrasound or radiofrequency to lift and firm, and advanced skincare or facials to restore hydration and glow. Each plan is personalized to respect your features and maintain harmony, so your reflection matches the health and confidence you’ve gained.
Does weight loss cause stretch marks?
Rapid weight loss can make stretch marks more visible, especially in areas like the abdomen, thighs, or arms. They occur when the skin stretches or contracts faster than collagen can adapt. At Dermapure, we offer laser and collagen-stimulating treatments that help fade stretch marks and improve the texture and tone of the skin.
Can weight loss lead to abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti)?
Yes, abdominal separation is more commonly seen after pregnancy, but significant weight fluctuations can also reveal or worsen it. While mild cases may improve with muscle strengthening or non-invasive toning technologies, more severe cases may require surgical correction. During your consultation, our team can assess and guide you honestly toward the best solution.
Why does skin look loose or saggy after weight loss?
When fat volume decreases quickly, the skin doesn’t always have time to contract, leading to laxity and folds. This is normal and very common. Non-invasive treatments that stimulate collagen, such as ultrasound or radiofrequency, can improve firmness and help the skin adapt better over time.
Do you prescribe weight loss medications?
Yes, in select Dermapure clinics, including Outremont. Our medical team can evaluate if weight loss prescription support is appropriate for you. These medications are only prescribed after a complete medical assessment to ensure safety and suitability, and they are always part of a structured and supervised program.
How much do weight-loss medications cost without insurance?
Pricing varies depending on the medication and dosage, and these treatments are generally not covered by insurance. A detailed quote is provided during your consultation if prescription support is part of your plan.
How much weight can you typically lose with prescription medications?
Results vary, but patients on weight loss medications often see a gradual and meaningful reduction that can reach 10–15% of their body weight when combined with healthy lifestyle changes.
Will the weight come back after stopping medication?
Some patients may regain weight once the medication is stopped, especially if lifestyle changes are not maintained. This is why follow-up and long-term support are key parts of the journey at Dermapure.
