Cryotherapy Ottawa

Cryotherapy is a medical procedure offered at our Dermapure clinics in Ottawa to treat certain superficial skin lesions. The technique applies controlled cold, usually liquid nitrogen, directly to the lesion in order to freeze the targeted tissue, which is then gradually eliminated by the body as the skin heals.

Cryotherapy can be used to treat lesions such as age spots, actinic keratoses, certain types of warts, seborrheic keratoses and other benign superficial growths, on the face, hands and body. The procedure is usually brief and performed in a single session, although certain lesions may require additional treatments. It can be planned alongside complementary in-clinic options such as photorejuvenation, medical-grade skincare protocols or other dermatologic treatments depending on the lesion and the goals discussed during consultation.

Because every patient’s skin, lesion type and medical history are different, cryotherapy at our Dermapure clinics in Ottawa always begins with a personalized consultation with a physician or healthcare professional. Together, you will assess whether cryotherapy is the most appropriate option for the lesion and discuss the procedure, the expected healing process and the possible side effects, which will be reviewed in detail during your consultation. What to Expect During Your Session

Step 1
Personalized Assessment
During your consultation, our experts will evaluate your skin concerns to determine if cryotherapy is the right treatment for you.
Step 2
Take Pictures
Photographs will be taken before the procedure to document the starting condition and track your progress over time.
Step 3
Proceed with Treatment
Cryotherapy involves applying liquid nitrogen or a controlled freezing device to the affected area. The treatment takes only a few seconds per lesion, with a slight tingling or stinging sensation.
Step 4
Return to Normal Activities
Mild redness, swelling, or darkening of the treated area is common and typically resolves within one to two weeks as the skin heals and regenerates.

Follow-Up & Maintenance

Depending on the depth of the lesion, multiple sessions may be needed to achieve optimal results. Your provider will guide you on the best treatment plan based on your skin’s response.
