Sclerotherapy Quebec
Sclerotherapy is a treatment offered at our Dermapure clinics in Quebec City that involves injecting a solution, either saline or sclerosing, into varicose veins and spider veins. The treated vein closes and is gradually reabsorbed by the body, while blood reroutes through healthy veins. It is used on areas such as the legs, ankles and feet.
Sclerotherapy is most often considered by patients who would like to treat spider veins and superficial varicose veins. It is not suited to every case, so a medical consultation first determines which veins can be treated and whether sclerotherapy is the right option for you. Compression stockings are recommended after each session, and side effects such as residual pigmentation or matting are reviewed during your consultation.
Because every patient’s veins, goals and medical history are different, sclerotherapy at our Dermapure clinics in Quebec City always begins with a personalized medical consultation with a physician or healthcare professional. Together, you will assess whether sclerotherapy is the most appropriate option for you and discuss what a realistic treatment plan could look like, the expected results and the possible side effects. Follow-Up & Maintenance
At your initial consultation, the physician will determine how many treatments are required per leg. The number of sclerotherapy treatments necessary depends on the extent of the vein disease and we are limited to the quantity of medication per visit. Closure of the affected veins can be visible within several days however treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks to several months. Support stockings are recommended to promote healthy circulation in the lower limbs and prevent and minimize recurrence. Patients can return to most usual activities post treatment.
Contraindications
Sclerotherapy is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as a known allergy to the sclerotic agent used. Special consideration is required in people with medical conditions that make them more vulnerable such as hypercoagulability (blood clotting), a history of a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
