Dermaplaning Toronto

Dermaplaning is a precise mechanical exfoliation treatment offered at our Dermapure clinics in Toronto, performed with a sterile surgical blade to gently remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair from the surface of the skin. It works on the face and can also include the neck in the same session, supporting smoother texture, brighter complexion and better absorption of the skincare products that follow.

Dermaplaning is most often considered by patients who would like to refine surface texture, soften the appearance of peach fuzz, brighten dull skin or prepare the skin for another in-clinic treatment. It is suitable for most skin types and phototypes, including sensitive skin, with the exception of extremely oily skin or active acne breakouts. It may be received on its own, often spaced four to six weeks apart, or planned alongside treatments such as chemical peels, photorejuvenation, microneedling or medical-grade skincare protocols within a broader treatment plan.

Because every patient's skin is different, dermaplaning at our Dermapure clinics in Toronto begins with a skin assessment to confirm that it is suitable for your skin and to tailor the session to your needs. Any precautions to keep in mind and the recommended interval between sessions are discussed during the appointment. Book your appointment with our team in Toronto.

What to Expect During Your Session

Step 1
Thorough skin cleansing
Eliminating superficial impurities and removing all traces of makeup by double cleansing, with a cleanser adapted to the patient's skin type is the first step of the treatment. It will also be necessary to remove the lipidic film from the treated area with a gauze soaked in an alcohol or acetone-based solution to prepare the skin to receive the treatment.
Step 2
Mechanical exfoliation
This stage involves scraping the top layer of the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth with a sterile surgical blade. This step will trigger a cellular regeneration process and allow the products to better penetrate the skin.
Step 3
Application of an exfoliating treatment
Applying an exfoliating treatment will exfoliate the skin thoroughly and prepare it for the treatments that follow. It is possible - and normal - to feel a tingling sensation and warmth at this stage, as the solution begins its exfoliating action.
Step 4
Reaction time
Allowing the exfoliating treatment to work on your skin will take 2 to 5 minutes. The technician will use a timer and will remain attentive to the visible signs on your skin during the entire time.
Step 5
Neutralizing the exfoliating treatment
Stopping the action of the exfoliating treatment is done by gently passing a gauze soaked in a neutralizing solution over the face. Any sensation of heat will be instantly soothed.

Follow-Up & Maintenance

While the skin is generally brighter immediately after a dermaplaning session, the effects are optimal after a series of treatments at 4-to-6-week intervals. The exfoliation achieved with dermaplaning allows products to better penetrate the skin, which increases their effectiveness making it an ideal option to prepare the skin to receive another treatment. Dermaplaning can be combined with many of the treatments available at Dermapure and is recommended, for example, before a SkinCeuticals Facial or photorejuvenation. Ask your consultant about the ideal combination for your skin.

Contraindications

Patients with active acne outbreaks, extremely oily skin or solar erythema should not receive this treatment.
