Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Toronto

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an injectable medical treatment offered at our Dermapure clinics in Toronto, which uses the patient's own plasma, prepared in clinic from a small blood draw and a centrifuge step, to support the skin's natural regeneration process through the action of growth factors. The plasma is delivered through microinjections, microneedling-assisted application or a blunt-tip microcannula depending on the area and the plan.

PRP is most often considered by patients who would like to address dullness, fine lines, acne scars, under-eye hollows or dark circles, skin laxity or uneven tone on the face, around the eyes, neck or décolleté. A series of three to four sessions is typically planned about four weeks apart, with maintenance every six to twelve months. The treatment may also be planned alongside microneedling, exosome therapy or medical-grade skincare protocols within a broader treatment plan.

Because every patient's skin, goals and medical history are different, PRP at our Dermapure clinics in Toronto always begins with a personalized consultation with a physician or healthcare professional. Together, you will assess whether PRP is the most appropriate option for you and discuss what a realistic treatment plan could look like, the expected results and the possible side effects. What to Expect During Your Session

Step 1
Personalized Consultation
Your journey starts with a one-on-one consultation. During this appointment, your physician will assess the condition of your skin or scalp, discuss your goals, and ensure that PRP is the right solution for your needs. This step is essential to create a personalized, medically guided treatment plan aligned with your expectations.
Step 2
Pre-Treatment Photography
Before your first session, clinical photos are taken to establish a visual reference. These images document your starting point and help track your progress over time. They also support meaningful conversations during follow-up appointments.
Step 3
Blood Collection & Plasma Preparation
A small blood sample is drawn, similar to a routine blood test. The sample is then placed in a centrifuge, which spins at high speed to isolate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This golden serum, rich in growth factors, is what fuels the treatment's regenerative power.
Step 4
Skin Cleansing & Disinfection
Before application, the treatment area is thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oil, or skincare residue. A careful disinfection follows to ensure a sterile environment, which is essential for both safety and optimal results.
Step 5
PRP Application

Your PRP is applied to targeted areas, such as the face, under-eyes, neck, décolleté, or scalp, according to your personalized plan. The clinical team selects the most appropriate application method, which may include fine microinjections, microneedling-assisted delivery, or a blunt-tip microcannula for delicate zones like the tear trough. The procedure is performed with precision and care, and most patients describe it as comfortable and well-tolerated. A session usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes.

Post-Treatment Care

After your session, the team will explain simple post-care steps to support healing. You may experience slight redness, warmth, or sensitivity in the treated area. These reactions are normal, temporary effects that typically subside within 24 hours.

Progressive Results

PRP works with your body’s natural healing process, so results appear gradually. Over the following weeks, you may notice firmer skin, improved tone and texture, and a revitalized complexion. For optimal outcomes, a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced a few weeks apart is usually recommended.

Follow-Up & Maintenance

PRP works gradually, and results are cumulative. In most cases, a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart is recommended to activate optimal skin or hair regeneration. Based on your initial condition and desired outcome, your provider may adapt the frequency and number of sessions.   To further enhance results, PRP can be combined with other medical aesthetic treatments. It is often paired with dermal filler injections for deeper volumizing effects or with RF microneedling (radiofrequency) to stimulate collagen and improve skin firmness more effectively. Your physician will guide you toward the best combination based on your skin’s needs and your personal goals.

Contraindications

Although PRP is a well-tolerated treatment that uses your own plasma, it may not be suitable for everyone. It is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or for those with autoimmune conditions, bleeding disorders, or active skin infections in the treatment area.   Additionally, certain lifestyle factors—such as excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, or a poor diet—can affect the quality of your plasma and potentially influence the effectiveness of the treatment. A comprehensive medical evaluation is always performed prior to treatment to ensure your safety and determine if PRP is the right option for you.
