Treat varicose veins
Offered at your clinic

Sclerotherapy BC Laser

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive injectable treatment for visible leg veins, in which a sclerosing solution is injected into the affected vein so it gradually closes and is reabsorbed by the body. It is commonly used for spider veins and smaller varicose veins.

Because every patient's vein anatomy, goals and medical history are different, sclerotherapy at our Dermapure Surrey City Centre clinic always begins with a personalized consultation with a physician or healthcare professional. Together, you will assess whether sclerotherapy is the most appropriate option for you and discuss the expected results and the possible side effects. What to Expect During Your Session

Step 1
Personalized assessment

During your consultation, your veins are carefully assessed to determine the source of your spider or varicose veins. A thorough evaluation helps identify the factors contributing to your condition and allows for the development of a safe, accurate, and effective treatment plan for lasting results. As with any medical consultation, current fees apply.

Step 2
Pre-treatment photos
Before and after photos are an important step in the treatment process, as it allows for visualization of the evolution of your results over time.
Step 3
Sclerotherapy treatment

Lasting approximately 30 minutes, sclerotherapy may cause a mild stinging sensation or a feeling of warmth during the injections. These sensations are temporary and typically resolve quickly after the procedure. Because the treatment involves injecting the targeted veins, some bruising is expected and generally fades over the following weeks. To support optimal healing, compression stockings should be worn for approximately 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, as recommended by your healthcare provider. During this time, unprotected sun exposure to the treated area should be avoided until any bruising has resolved.

Follow-Up & Maintenance

At your initial consultation, the physician will determine how many treatments are required per leg. The number of sclerotherapy sessions depends on the extent of the vein disease, and the amount of medication that can be administered safely during each visit. Closure of the treated veins may be visible within several days, while the veins themselves typically fade over the following weeks to several months. Compression stockings should be worn for approximately two weeks after each treatment to promote healthy circulation and support optimal healing. Patients can return to most usual activities following treatment.

Contraindications

Sclerotherapy is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as a known allergy to the sclerotic agent used. Special consideration is required in people with medical conditions that make them more vulnerable such as hypercoagulability (blood clotting), a history of a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
