Fine Line & Wrinkle Treatments in Vancouver
Targeted Skin Rejuvenation
Fine lines and deeper wrinkles may require different approaches. At our Vancouver clinics, we assess your skin and the type of wrinkles you want to address before recommending treatments such as injectables, laser, radiofrequency and medical-grade skincare to help soften their appearance while respecting your facial features.

Why Fine Lines and Wrinkles Develop
Fine lines and wrinkles rarely have a single cause. Repeated facial movements, declining collagen, sun exposure and changes in facial volume each play a part, and they often act together over the years. Some lines appear only when your face moves, while others remain visible at rest. Understanding which of these factors is behind your lines helps explain why they look the way they do and how they may evolve.
Facial Expressions & Repeated Movements
Each time you smile, frown or squint, the muscles beneath the skin contract and fold it in the same places. This is why expression lines tend to form on the forehead, between the eyebrows and at the outer corners of the eyes. At first, they fade when your face relaxes, but as collagen decreases, the repeated folds can set into the skin and stay visible at rest.
Collagen Loss & Skin Elasticity
Collagen and elastin are the proteins that keep your skin firm and help it spring back after each movement. With age, the cells that make them, called fibroblasts, slow down, and the existing fibres gradually break down. The skin becomes less resilient, so creases form more easily and take longer to fade.
Sun Exposure & Skin Damage
The sun is the leading environmental cause of visible skin aging, accounting for an estimated 80 to 90% of it. UVA rays reach deep into the skin and break down collagen and elastin, while UVB rays damage the surface. Because this damage builds up over years, often before it shows, fine lines tend to be more visible on the areas most exposed to the sun.
Facial Volume Changes
Over time, the fat pads that support the face shrink and shift downward while the underlying bone gradually recedes, so the skin folds more deeply around the nose, mouth and lower face. Lines in these areas, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, often reflect this loss of support. Rapid weight loss, including medically supervised weight loss, can produce a similar effect in a much shorter time, as the facial fat pads empty faster than the skin can adapt. This is a mechanical consequence of losing volume quickly, not a sign that anything went wrong.
Environmental & Lifestyle Factors
Pollution, smoking and a diet high in sugar can all speed up skin aging. Pollution and smoking increase free radicals, unstable molecules that damage healthy cells, including collagen and elastin. Excess sugar, meanwhile, attaches to collagen fibres in a process called glycation, making them stiffer and more brittle.
