During your consultation, ultrasound is used to map the veins and discover the source of pressure causing the varicose veins. Often the source of the spider or varicose veins are too deep to see with the naked eye. This consultation stage allows for the development of a safe, accurate and effective treatment plan for lasting results. As with any medical consultation, current fees apply.
Before and after photos are an important step in the treatment process, as it allows for visualization of the evolution of your results over time.
Lasting 20 minutes, sclerotherapy treatment may give rise to a slight tingling or a feeling of heat during the session. This sensation disappears quickly after treatment. As the treatment involves injection into the veins, naturally some bruising should be anticipated. Bruising due to any cause on the legs generally resolves over 3 weeks, and patients should refrain from unprotected sun exposure until the bruises clear.

At your initial consultation, the physician will determine how many treatments are required per leg. The number of sclerotherapy treatments necessary depends on the extent of the vein disease and we are limited to the quantity of medication per visit. Closure of the affected veins can be visible within several days however treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks to several months. Support stockings are recommended to promote healthy circulation in the lower limbs and prevent and minimize recurrence. Patients can return to most usual activities post treatment.
Sclerotherapy is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as a known allergy to the sclerotic agent used. Special consideration is required in people with medical conditions that make them more vulnerable such as hypercoagulability (blood clotting), a history of a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
Varicose veins on the legs, ankles and feet can be treated with sclerotherapy.

Visit The Online StoreSclerotherapy is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment designed to reduce the appearance of varicose and spider veins through the injection of a sclerosing agent. Recognized as the gold standard for vein treatment, it improves leg appearance, relieves discomfort, and enhances confidence with minimal side effects. The procedure is quick, requires little to no downtime, and delivers visible results in just a few sessions. At our Calgary clinic, our specialists customize each treatment to ensure safe and effective results. For deeper or larger veins, Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy (Echosclerotherapy) may be recommended.
Sclerotherapy is a safe and effective treatment that requires no surgery or tissue removal. A specialized solution is injected directly into the affected vein, causing it to collapse and gradually disappear. The procedure is performed in-office at Dermapure Calgary and typically takes about 30 minutes. The number of sessions needed varies depending on the extent of the varicose veins. Most patients require two to three treatments, though some may need additional sessions for optimal results. In the weeks following treatment, smaller veins typically fade within three to six weeks, while larger veins may take up to three months. Once treated, these veins do not return, but new ones can appear over time. If this happens, maintenance treatments at our Calgary clinic may be recommended to keep your legs looking their best.
Sclerotherapy is a versatile treatment that can effectively reduce the appearance of spider veins and small varicose veins. The best candidates are typically individuals between the ages of 30 and 60 who have no history of blood clotting disorders and have not been pregnant or given birth in the past three months. While sclerotherapy is FDA-approved and very safe, it is not suitable for everyone. That’s why a personalized consultation at Dermapure Calgary is essential before beginning treatment. Our experts will assess your unique needs and ensure that sclerotherapy is the safest and most effective option for you.
Proper preparation helps ensure a smooth procedure and recovery. On the day of your appointment, shower with antibacterial soap but avoid lotion and shaving. Wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes. If you have compression stockings, bring them; otherwise, you will need to purchase a pair. Discuss any medications with your doctor, especially birth control or blood thinners, as some may need to be paused. Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least two days before treatment, as they can affect healing. Inform your doctor of any medical conditions, past vein treatments, or pregnancy, as it’s recommended to wait several months after childbirth before undergoing sclerotherapy. At our Calgary clinic, we also advise avoiding hot baths, direct sunlight, saunas, and hot compresses for at least 48 hours post-treatment to promote proper healing.
