Despite our familiarity with endless winters, summer always ends up making its appearance more quickly than we think. And as the summer season approaches, our body image is often called into question. It therefore isn’t uncommon to consider following a new fad diet or taking up jogging. But sometimes, despite a healthy lifestyle, a little additional boost is necessary. CoolSculpting® is the most popular non-surgical technique in the entire world. Let’s take a look at what it’s all about.
What is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® was created in 2008 in the United States. This technology is based on the principle of cryolipolysis, or the destruction of fat with cold. Researchers at Harvard University observed the appearance of creases in the cheeks of children who enjoyed eating popsicles, and they took their studies a step further and examined the correlation between cold and fat elimination. They thus discovered that, when they reached a very low temperature, the fats contained in the adipocytes crystallized, causing them to die and be eliminated through the natural means of the body.
A typical session
At the clinic, we begin with a 360° assessment to identify the areas to be treated. Sides, abdomen, back, arms, thighs, double chin – anything goes! During the session, we first apply a gel pad to the area in question before placing an applicator there. A bit like a vacuum cleaner, this applicator sucks up then cools the fatty tissues. At first, it’s possible to feel a bit of tingling, but the area is very quickly numbed; it’s therefore possible to eat, work, or even sleep during the session! When the cryolipolysis process is finished, a massage is performed for a few minutes to heat up the treated area. The massage is essential to revive the cells that were frozen by the cold and facilitate their elimination.
And the results?
You may experience slight numbness for 48 hours following the treatment. The reduction of the fat layer will occur gradually as the body eliminates the treated cells up to four months after the treatment.
- Patients generally see a reduction in body fat of around 20 to 25%;
- No anaesthesia is required;
- The results are permanent;
- The technology is approved by Health Canada.
To date, over 2 million treatments have demonstrated the effectiveness of CoolSculpting® in over 56 countries, and the results speak for themselves. That said, there’s no magic formula: a healthy diet and regular physical exercise remain essential not only for a shapely figure but for a healthy body!
