    Injectable Dermal Fillers information

Dermal fillers and volume-building injections, often known by their commercial names such as Juvederm®, Esthelis®, Teosyal®, Restylane® and others, are widely used in aesthetic medicine to fill static wrinkles and to compensate for the loss of volume over time. They are composed of hyaluronic acid, a carbohydrate (sugar derivative) occurring naturally throughout the human body. As we age and due to repeated exposure to environmental pollutants and the sun’s UV rays, our skin cells lose their ability to produce hyaluronic acid. As a result, facial features become harsh and sunken. That’s when volume-building injections of synthesized hyaluronic acid come in handy. Injected under the skin, hyaluronic acid binds to water, capable to hold more than a thousand times its weight, which makes it ideal to hydrate the skin and to maintain tissue volume. It is a safe non-surgical treatment, often used in combination with neuromodulators.

    Personalized Assessment

Identifying your injection treatment goals and needs is essential. Several aspects are to be considered, including your age, skin quality and condition, genetics, etc., and would affect the amount of product required for optimal and natural results. During the consultation we will discuss your goals and expectations, and present our expertise in order to offer the best advice based on your priorities and budget.

    Take Pictures

Pictures taken before the procedure help to get a better view and understanding of the areas affected by the loss of volume and can be used when discussing your goals with the physician. When compared to your “After” pictures, they are an effective way to see the results of the treatment and will be used as reference over time.

    Apply a Numbing Gel

Applying a lidocaine-based gel to the areas to be treated will numb the skin and make injections more comfortable. While it is not a common practice at other clinics, at Dermapure we never skip this step to make sure your experience is the most enjoyable.

    Proceed with Injections

Our philosophy is to bring out the natural beauty by restoring balance to the face. Your injection specialist proceeds with the injections of the best hyaluronic acid product available on the market in accordance with the individual morphology of each patient. The product is injected under the skin with a needle or a small cannula, depending on the chosen technique, with the goal to achieve face symmetry, restore natural contours and compensate for the loss of volume. The number of syringes needed will vary based on the surface and depth of the treated areas. Throughout the session, you may use a mirror to follow the procedure and to participate in certain decisions. A typical injection treatment lasts 30 to 60 minutes.

    Return to Normal Activities

It is possible to return to your normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Localized redness, swelling and bruising may occur, but will subside quickly. No actual downtime is expected. The effects are immediate, with optimum results achieved in the month following the treatment, and normally last for ten to twelve months.

Each person is unique and we are here to advise you. It is free.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally produced by the human body and it plays a major role in keeping the skin hydrated and volumized. As we age, hyaluronic acid production slows. The rate at which is slows varies, which is why the aging process looks different from person to person.

Composed of hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers can be used to restore or balance dermal volume that has been lost over time. The most popular dermal filler treatments include: redefining the jawline, enhancing the cheek bones, and plumping or reshaping the lips.

A variety of the best dermal fillers available are offered at Dermapure to achieve the natural results you desire. Contact us for a virtual or in person complimentary consultation!

How long does the treatment take?

Depending on the area(s) being treated, the appointment time may vary from 15 minutes up to 1 hour. A consultation must be planned prior to the first treatment at Dermapure.

    Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are safe if the treatment is performed by one of our experienced medical experts with extensive knowledge of facial anatomy. Results are reversible by injecting an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid.

    Do dermal filler injections hurt?

We take patient comfort seriously at Dermapure. While pain is typically minimal, we recognize everyone has a unique tolerance, especially in sensitive areas. We can numb the area with topical anesthetic and we have a variety of ‘distraction devices’ available to you. You may experience sensitivity, light swelling or small bruises following the treatment.

When will I see results after hyaluronic acid injections?

Results are visible immediately after the treatment, although minor swelling may alter the final result. You can appreciate the full benefits 1 to 2 weeks following treatment.

How long do hyaluronic acid injections results last?

For most patients, results of hyaluronic injections may last anywhere from 6 to 24 months, depending on the area(s) being treated*. Our experts will advise you of the best time to return for follow up treatments at your appointment.

    *Individual results may vary.

What factors can impact the results of hyaluronic injections?

Multiple factors can impact the results including age, facial symmetry, history of previous treatment(s), lifestyle, sun exposure and diet.

How long before I can get back to my normal activities after hyaluronic injections?

Most patients return to their regular activities immediately following the hyaluronic acid injections treatment, although it is possible to experience temporary redness, bruising or minor swelling of the treated area in the 24 to 48 hours following the treatment.

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

The most common areas treated with hyaluronic acid are temples, under-eyes, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheekbones, jowls, jawline, chin and lips.

How much do dermal fillers cost?

The cost per treatment varies by product, location and desired results. Our experts will recommend a product that is suitable for your needs in order to provide safe, natural and long-lasting results that meet your highest expectations.

What is the difference between dermal fillers and neuromodulators?

Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a derivative of one of the body’s natural sugars, and can be used to create volume in different areas of the face and hands. The product can absorb up to ten thousand times it’s weight in water, like a real sponge! Dermal fillers are recommended to rehydrate and balance dermal volume and are ideal to plump lips, fill deep wrinkles or other areas where volume loss is noticed.

Neuromodulators temporarily relax specific muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Dynamic wrinkles and lines that appear as a result of these muscles contracting will gradually fade. Neuromodulators do not restore lost volume or fill deep wrinkles. Therefore, you can combine neuromodulators with dermal fillers to complement your results.

Our experts will recommend a personalized treatment plan adapted to the needs of your skin. Contact us for a complimentary consultation, in person or virtually!

Due to Health Canada regulations, we cannot state the names of the neuromodulators we use at Dermapure.
