How Skin Experts Prioritize Wellness

January 25, 2021

Wellbeing serie

Skin experts of Dermapure

It’s easy to get caught up in our day to day and sometimes this means our overall health and wellness gets put on the backburner. But the key is to choose grace over guilt. It’s never too late to turn things around, reset, and focus on you. When we take care of ourselves, we become the best version of ourselves in all aspects of life.

For our final installment of our Well-Being Series, we asked our fellow Dermapurians and skin experts to share how they make their health and wellness a priority with their busy, on-the-go lifestyles.

We hope you find inspiration in their actions and can adopt some of your own !

Jessica Berto, Training Manager of Western Canada, has mastered her mindfulness routine :

“In the morning I like to take 5 minutes to set my intentions, I usually sit there with my headphones on and my tea, look out the window and reflect on what I want to accomplish. This is also when I do my best thinking so my growth ideas come at this time.

I have started a mindful moment throughout my day, somewhere in there I just stop to focus on my breathing and really bring myself back to being present.

At night, I have a burn after reading book – every night I have a question in there that I answer, for example : what was your first memory that you have ?

Every second week, I send a text out to someone I don’t talk to daily to tell them how much I love them and to remind them that they are beautiful.

I go to the ocean once a week and sit there to watch the waves, its very calming and grounding. When I sit there, I remind myself how blessed I am to live in Vancouver and to have people around me who support me with everything.” – Jessica Berto, Training Manager, Western Canada

Kim Rooney, Technician at Dermapure Vancouver is dedicated to her health and fitness regime :

“I am a total “health freak”, so I do follow a very strict regime :

I do CrossFit 4-5 times a week and I sleep 8hrs plus per night.

I am pescatarian. I don’t consume alcohol and eat very little dairy.

I make myself a daily cocktail of either sparkling water or cold herbal fruit tea with fresh squeezed lemon, lime and orange with a little fresh ginger and turmeric.

I meal prep every Sunday. I usually make a large quinoa salad with vegetables or soup and portion it out for my lunches during the week.

I am obsessed with garlic. I put it in everything and eat it raw. Yes, raw ! I chop it up and eat it with fresh vegetables, hummus and avocado. So delicious !

Lastly, I am also consistent with taking supplements. Especially during the long winter months!

I should live to 100 !” – Kim Rooney, Technician, Vancouver

Jessica Jaimes, Technician at Dermapure Ottawa is all about balancing each aspect of her health and wellness :

“As part of my night time skin care routine, I always apply my Lip Collagen Infusion because it makes me feel pretty and feminine, not to mention, it’s hydrating and plumping !

Every morning I take the time to make myself a dairy-free latté with coffee, oat milk, Splenda, cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s a delicious treat to start my day with !

While I’m doing my make up in the morning, I like to listen to a calming and relaxing play list to help me feel zen before I tackle the day !

On the weekends, I spend time with my family, and meal prep for the week with my mom. We get some good laughs in, and reward ourselves with a tasty dessert, which is good for the soul !

While meal prepping for the week, I like to put all my ingredients for my morning smoothie into Ziplock bags, and freeze them. That way in the morning, all I have to do is put it in the blender, and add my oat milk !

A few times a week, I like to research work related topics so I’m always educated and know what’s new !

After work, I try to get at least half an hour of a work-out in. Lately, with everything going on, it’s been hard to stay motivated, but after a good run, I feel great !” – Jessica James, Technician, Ottawa

Remember : choose grace over guilt. It’s about finding and developing daily habits that help you live a healthier, happier life !

This concludes our Well-being Series. We hope that you feel well equipped elevate your healthy lifestyle and take your overall wellness to the next level.
