The laser technologies used-such as YAG, Cutera, VBeam, Fotona or Perfecta-rely mostly on light as a concentrated energy source to treat various skin conditions. Each laser is characterized by a wavelength that extends from ultraviolet rays to infrared rays, with each wavelength targeting a precise condition.
The energy of so-called vascular lasers is first abundantly absorbed by the hemoglobin before it selectively destroys the visible vessels on the skin’s surface. Therefore, these lasers are ideal for treating redness and, depending on programmed settings, can help improve the topography and colour of scars in addition to restoring skin suppleness.
So-called pigment lasers are better suited for targeting most types of spots. Considering that these spots tend to reappear with sun exposure, it is important to perform regular follow-up maintenance and to wear proper sunscreen during every season.
While ruby angiomas will normally disappear in a single session, several visits are required to achieve an overall unified complexion, soothe redness or reduce the appearance of targeted spots. When it comes to treating rosacea, in addition to the beneficial thermal effect on blood vessels, the treatment helps reduce the frequency and intensity of breakouts.
Despite the powerful nature of these laser technologies, they deliver painless, non-invasive treatments whose side effects are mostly limited to temporary swelling, heightened redness and a temporary darkening of spots. Each treatment is performed by one of our doctors or his or her assigned nurse.

The first step in any vascular laser treatment is to eliminate all traces of makeup and surface lipid film since it is always preferable to remove barriers so that the light can deliver all of its therapeutic benefits. There’s nothing better than clean skin before proceeding with treatment!
Wearing protective eyewear or, on occasion, protective eye shells, will shield your eyes from light beams. During a session, it is normal to remark several flashes of light. With proper protection, however, your eyes have nothing to fear during this perfectly safe treatment.
Prior to treatment, a protective aqueous gel is applied over the entire skin surface of the treatment area for better heat distribution and to make the treatment more comfortable. This is not required for the treatment of pigment spots; the specific parameters for this treatment allow medical staff to dry treat the targeted area without risk.
Determining the precise treatment parameters will ensure treatment success. Every patient is different and every condition-vascular or pigmentary-must be treated differently depending on its location, size and colour. Staff must therefore consider several factors that are unique to you and which will evolve over the course of your sessions.
Feeling the laser’s light on your skin for the first time can be a little startling! Depending on the technology used, the sensation can be one of slight pinching, or at times it may feel like concentrated heat or a burst of pressurized air. Any discomfort, however, is short-lived and the session will only last between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on individual needs.
Removing the gel-when applicable-and cleaning the skin signals the end of a session. To calm the heat sensation and to protect the skin, a moisturizer is carefully applied to the entire treatment area, followed by a mineral sunscreen. Occasionally, and at the discretion of staff, skin may be left in the open air to recover, which is most often the case for the treatment of pigment spots.

It normally takes between 2 and 5 sessions with minimum one-month intervals to see optimal results, depending on your skin’s initial condition. Subsequently, a light yearly maintenance session will ensure that your results are preserved over time.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should postpone this type of treatment, as well as anyone who has been exposed to sunlight in the months before or after each session. Sunbeds/tanning booths, the use of self-tanning products and photo-sensitizing medication are all forbidden.
The above-mentioned conditions primarily affect the face and the small applicator tip on the vascular lasers facilitates access to the most sensitive areas such as the nose. This being said, we are usually able to treat spots located anywhere on the body. Please note that some of these lasers are not suitable for darker skin types.
