Once you’ve decided that CoolSculpting is right for you and know what to expect from the results, it’s time to prepare for your appointment. While CoolSculpting involves less preparation and recovery than surgical procedures, there are still steps you can take to ensure optimal results. These tips will help reduce skin sensitivity during treatment and minimize any discomfort afterward. Here’s how to prepare for and recover from your CoolSculpting treatment to look and feel your best.

Before CoolSculpting

Avoid Blood Thinners

Consult with your doctor to determine if it’s safe for you to avoid blood thinners. If so, try not to take any in the week leading up to your CoolSculpting session. Medications like ibuprofen and supplements such as fish oil can increase your risk of bruising. If you’re on blood thinners as prescribed by your doctor, do not stop taking them without medical guidance. Always consult your physician before making any changes to your medications.

Skip Tanning

UV exposure can make your skin more sensitive to the CoolSculpting procedure. Avoid tanning in the sun or using a tanning bed for at least a week before your appointment to ensure a more comfortable treatment experience.

Report Any Injuries

Since CoolSculpting involves suctioning and massaging the treatment area, it’s important to notify your provider if you have any injuries, such as cuts, bruises, or skin conditions. If necessary, your CoolSculpting® session may need to be rescheduled to prevent discomfort or complications.

Eat a Light Meal

CoolSculpting is best performed on a satisfied stomach. Have a light meal or snack before your session to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the treatment.

After CoolSculpting

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water after your treatment will help your body eliminate fat cells more efficiently and support a quicker recovery. Hydration can also make your CoolSculpting results more noticeable sooner.

Be Gentle with Your Body

After treatment, be mindful of any redness or tenderness in the treated area. Although CoolSculpting requires no downtime, you may want to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days and refrain from exposing the area to extreme temperatures. When bathing, gently pat the area dry instead of scrubbing it to avoid irritation.

Have Realistic Expectations

CoolSculpting results don’t appear immediately. You may start seeing changes around 3 weeks after treatment, with the most dramatic results becoming visible after 2 months.

Manage Discomfort

It’s common to feel some soreness or discomfort after treatment. This can be relieved with over-the-counter medications, warm compresses, and gentle stretching or yoga. If you have a history of chronic pain, consult your family doctor before scheduling CoolSculpting to discuss any potential concerns.

CoolSculpting at Dermapure
