Happy lunar new year from Dermapure Vancouver

In the spirit of the Lunar New Year, we connected with our renowned Physician Injector team at Dermapure Vancouver on their favourite treatments for Asian Skin.

Our Dermapure Vancouver Medical Director, Dr. Jang, MD, FRCPC, is an expert in Facial Slimming with Injectables to create a feminine facial contour that is well-loved amongst our patients.

Dr. Angela Law, MD, FRCPC, FAAD, another of our amazing Dermapure Vancouver Physicians, is excited to begin offering skin rejuvenation with the PicoSure™ technology, a new addition to the Dermapure Vancouver treatment menu, and a safe and effective Laser option for patients with Asian skin types.

Read more below on why they love these treatments:

Dr Frances Jang, Medical Director and Dermatologist at Dermapure Vancouver

One of the most frequently requested and satisfying injectable procedures is to slim the Asian face. In 2021, there are several ways to achieve this universally desired aesthetic of Asian beauty, depending on individual facial assessment.

The Korean lift, has been a common treatment in my practice since visiting Seoul, Korea more than a decade ago. Using a neuromodulator, like Botox or the newer Nuceiva, injected directly into the bite or masseteric muscles, creates not only a more oval feminine face, but can decrease symptoms like grinding, TMJ dysfunction and for some, relieve headaches.

Alternatively, or in combination, placing firm products that do not retain water, like Radiesse, Sculptra, or Volux along the jawline, and/or chin can sharpen the jawline, and somewhat counterintuitively, give the appearance of a thinner, more refined facial contour. This can also help to diminish the appearance of double chin, and or elongate the appearance of face and neck.

As a 30y veteran, female Chinese Canadian dermatologist, and one of the first injection specialists in Vancouver, I understand the impact in presenting our best faces, particularly now as we optimistically anticipate that “masks are coming off” !

Gung Hay Fat Choy (Happy Lunar New Year) !

What better way to celebrate the New Year than with fresh and rejuvenated skin, as we bid farewell to one of the most unprecedented years in history. With the ongoing pandemic, it is also a great opportunity to embrace the lockdown and minimal social exposure to get those treatments you have been considering. Two of the best technologies on the market that target numerous concerns (pigment, texture, scarring and fine lines) include fractional and picosecond lasers.

Fractional laser treatment is an accessible and preventive care treatment that is non-invasive and uses thousands of microscopic columns of laser energy to target a ‘fraction’ of the skin to improve the skin’s texture, tone and pigmentation with less downtime compared to traditional ablative re-surfacing lasers. It is still one of the most effective laser treatments for acne and surgical scarring but also is used to improve facial lines and wrinkles, sun damage (actinic keratoses), skin pigmentation and photoaging.

One of the newest and safest advancements in fractional skin rejuvenation is with picosecond laser technology. Instead of using heat to cause skin injury, this technology delivers ultrafast pulses to generate non-thermal energy to the skin. This translates to a treatment with little to no downtime and safe for all skin types.

Although optimal results will be achieved with at least 3 treatments, significant improvements can be expected with even 1 treatment with the fractional and picosecond lasers.
