International Women’s Day Feature: Introducing Functionalab Group COO Michelle Cialdella & the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge

February 26, 2021

Inspiring Women Series

Michelle Cialdella

With International Women’s Day coming up on March 8th, 2021, we wanted to take a moment to honour and celebrate the amazing women that make up over 90% of our organization at Functionalab Group, which includes our Dermapure Clinics, Project Skin MD Clinics, Functionalab and Jouviance teams.

One of these women in particular, Michelle Cialdella, who recently joined Functionalab Group as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Clinics Division, will soon be participating in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge: a fundraiser in which 10 confident, influential, courageous, inspiring and daring women will shave their heads in solidarity and support of Leucan, a Quebec based charity organization committed to helping cancer-stricken children and their families.

These 10 women, referred to as Les Audacieuses, said YES to shaving off their hair as a powerful gesture in solidarity with cancer-stricken children, all while disrupting the norms of what defines femininity. Each of these women have a story to tell, and you can read more of Michelle’s here.

Michelle has joined Functionalab Group with an impressive resume of over 20 years experience as an energetic and attentive leader for large companies. In her personal life, she is a mother of 3, including her oldest daughter who has faced the incredible challenges of battling cancer in her teenage years. Her daughter lost her hair to chemo, not once but twice. By participating in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge, Michelle hopes to attract attention, not to herself and her situation, but to Leucan.

“I want to build awareness around kids and especially teenagers and young adults living with cancer. I’ve seen so many of them at the hospital. It’s the age group that is forgotten, overlooked. We talk about small kids a lot, but it’s also very difficult for teenagers. It’s heartbreaking.”

We are lucky to have such a courageous and inspiring leader on our team. Michelle will be shaving her head for her daughter, on March 28th, 2021. Her personal goal is to raise $20,000, with a collective goal of raising $200,000 among Les Audacieuses, to allow Leucan to continue to support families who face a pediatric cancer diagnosis, help them financially, and invest in pediatric oncology research.
