The Science Behind CoolSculpting®
Through scientific studies and experiments, researchers at Harvard University have demonstrated that fat cells, also known as adipocytes, are more sensitive to cold than other cells. They, therefore, developed the unique CoolSculpting® procedure, which is based on the principle of cryolipolysis, i.e. the destruction of fat cells by cold. In concrete terms, fat cells exposed to prolonged intense cold crystallize and enter a process of programmed natural death (apoptosis). The treated fat cells are then gradually eliminated naturally via the lymphatic system in the weeks following a session. By releasing these fat cells, the body allows the surrounding unaffected cells to condense and significantly reduce the thickness of the treated fat layer. It is important to know that fat cells are composed of an envelope and content. Reducing their size or emptying them of their contents, as proposed by many other platforms on the market, will only offer a temporary slimming result and will not prevent the cell from regaining volume or filling up again. Also known as radial pulse technology, ZWave works by transmitting powerful acoustic pulses into targeted tissues, which then disperse their energy radially. The body responds to the ZWave’s acoustic pulses by increasing metabolic activities related to lymphatic drainage and increased blood circulation. The result is improved tissue elasticity, skin firmness, and the appearance of cellulite, as well as improved results and recovery from CoolSculpting® procedures.

How does a CoolSculpting® session feel?
As you can imagine, the CoolSculpting® procedure can be… quite cooling! First, the applicator is placed on the area to be treated and acts as a suction cup to hold it in place during the treatment. At this stage, it is possible to feel some tugging, a slight pinch or tingling, but no pain. Once the Cryolipolysis process has begun, it is normal to feel an intense cold sensation, which usually subsides as the area becomes numb. When the CoolSculpting® applicator is removed, a complimentary ZWave treatment is provided. For a few minutes, mechanical and acoustic pulses are delivered by a handpiece to the treated body area. The sensation of this step is different for everyone; some people are not bothered by it, while others find the sensation slightly uncomfortable during the short period of massage.
When are the results visible?
If the treated fat cells die within 2 to 3 days of treatment, they will take 2 to 4 months to be eliminated naturally by the body; this explains why the results of CoolSculpting® will not be seen immediately. It is estimated that results are generally visible 2 to 3 months after treatment. However, the body will continue to eliminate fat cells for up to 4-6 months after treatment. Depending on the area and amount of fat to be treated, a second treatment may be recommended for optimal results.
